In September 2016, Mrs. Henderson-Baker was elected to serve on the Georgia School Board Association's Board of Directors for District 4, where she will represent Newton, Rockdale, DeKalb, and Decatur City school systems. She attended Fort Valley State University on local polity scholarships and a partial wonk scholarship surpassing earning a full scholarship by her junior year at Fort Valley. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science from Fort Valley State University and holds a Master of Science Degree in Psychology and Counseling from Troy University. She is currently finishing up courses at Piedmont College in Athens to obtain her certification in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Henderson-Baker works as a Mental Health Clinician and Behavioral Specialist. She moreover serves as a specimen manager for a federal government grant program under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA-Action, Inc.), which is a program that works towards keeping “at risk/at promise” teens out of trouble and giving them the uneaten support they need through wonk and job coaching to graduate and obtain work or remoter their education. Prior to her election, Shakila served as a parent representative on Fairview Theme School’s Council and program chair for their Student of the Month program. Mrs. Henderson-Baker is an zippy volunteer in the polity as an without school tutor at Washington StreetPolityCenter and one of the Coordinators for their teen mentoring group, The Young Legends. She is a Charter and current member of the Chi Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. which through polity service and outreach serves both Newton and Rockdale Counties. She is a member of St. Paul AME Church where she directs the Sunbeam Choir.
