Through a range of intriguing and challenging courses, students find opportunities for hair-trigger and creative thinking, and vital skills for future success. Students may segregate from many electives to pursue an interest in-depth, or sample subjects to focus educational and career interests. Strong instructional departments provide a solid educational foundation. The NCSS upper school program of study requires: SUBJECT MINIMUM UNITS REQUIRED English/Language Arts 4 Mathematics 4 Science 4 Social Studies 4 CTAE and/or Modern Language/Latin and/or Fine Arts 3 Health and Physical Education 1 Electives 4 Tiered diploma options are no longer included in the graduation requirements for students inward ninth grade without 2008-2009. All students are expected to well-constructed a worldwide set of requirements to earn a regular diploma. In addition, eight courses (Algebra I, Analytic Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, 9th Grade Lit/Comp., American Lit, Economics, and US History) require students to take state End of Course (EOC) assessments that count as 20% of the student’s grade. Gifted and Advanced Placement courses are important curriculum features for College Preparatory students. The Quest program for academically gifted students offers classes in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. These classes are taught on an advanced/enriched level and parallel the regular school curriculum Upperschool students who meet program requirements may moreover participate in Move on When Ready (MOWR). MOWR provides students with the opportunity to receive post-secondary school credits while standing their upper school education. MOWR provides students with the opportunity to receive post-secondary school credit that moreover counts toward upper school credit. Currently, Newton County has increasingly than fifty merchantry partners in the Apprenticeship Program. This program provides students who commit to post-secondary education, the opportunity to receive work-based learning under a merchantry partner mentor in his/her career field. Upperschool students may be involved in a wide variety of co-curricular programs, including drama, band, chorus, and visual arts. Students are offered civic, social, and service experiences vastitude the classroom through a wide variety of clubs and organizations. The upper schools of Newton County offer a comprehensive sturdy program for secondary students.
